In this work from the U.S. Coast Guard Art Program 2015 Collection, “Guardians of the Sea,” ID# 201510, a Coast Guard rescue swimmer executes a rescue of a young woman ready to be lifted to the helicopter by the hoist hook in his left hand, which is attached to his harness. While not a depiction of an actual event, the painting conveys the reality swimmers, helicopter crews and those they rescue often face.
