s (Sung) Twelve fragments of this highly priced and colorful ware, setat the back of a wooden panel which is carved for them withopenings in the shape of vases, cups and a wine pot. The severalpieces show chtirde-lnne and other delicate grounds, splashedwith rich purples, reds, blue, green and pink, the surfaces bril-liant and some of the orange-skin variety. Height of panel, \S% inches; length. 21Vi inehei. 454—CbCn-yao Jar (Yuan) Globular with broad month and short neck, and heavy foot.Greenish-gray glaze with bluish note, crackled in brown linesand much pitted, and of subdued brilliance. Height, 8% inehes. 455—Ovoid Jar ( Yuan) Short neck and everted lip. Heavy coarse pottery with a brownglaze of rough surface and grayish earth attachments. Height, 10% inrhet. Third Afternoon 45fi—Fr.ARixt; Ovoidai. Bowl (Sung) Exterior modeled with a band of encircling rings. Cream glazeof soft brilliance; within the sunken medallion of the bottom acircle of spur marks. Diameter, 9% incite*.

457—Ixtkumkxt Vasi: ( Wei) Elongated ovoidai form with sloping .shoulder and short neck,expanded lip and molded foot. Coarse paste with a high reliefornamentation, including six rrudclv formed, primitively designedhuman figures and an archaic dragon, three birds and two dog-like creatures. Onlv remnants of a glaze of indistinguishablecolor, with earthy accretions. Ileir/ht, 13,; infhen. Third Afternoon 458—Pais Intkkmknt Vasks (Wei) Elongated form, slightly ovoidal, with broad sloping neck, andthick beveled lip. High relief decoration of human images andfigures of dragons, lizards, bears, serpents and a variety ofanimalistic forms of crude design. Thin wash glaze in browntone over a coarse paste, the glaze ceasing well above the foot.(Lips chipped.) Hfit/ht, 12 iarhtf.
