e assembled on afenced-in lawn, enjoying a repast, attendants coming from aliavilion with replenishment. Their garden is on the borderof a river, and at its brink another attendant is seated, settingafloat cups of wine in observance of an ancient and famousceremony. The figures are robed in scarlet, blue and brown. CHINESE PAINTING ON GLASS 411—Ladies in The Garden of Blooming Flowers Height, 221/2 inches; length, !30Vi; inches At the left a corner of a summer-house comes into view in awooded and rocky landscape or natural garden, two ladiesapproaching on the veranda and another standing on theground at the foot of the steps. Here on a level patch in theforeground are also other figures, one a boy mounted on asjjotted stag. Through the landscape courses a placid river,and on the farther shore are seen some gray buildings. Thewhole landscape is done in blue, green and jellowish-brown.Rose-tinted clouds float in a blue sky. In a leaf on the pavilionis inscribed the name of the garden.
