Preparing for another day of training, United States Air Force Major William Roy loads hundreds of clay pigeons into the voice activated launcher. For MAJ Roy, skeet shooting means blasting 200 out of 200 speeding clay pigeons to bits - the norm for this sharp shooter. Perfect scores like this are what's needed to be awarded the gold medal at the Olympics. To support this level of talent and skill, military members have the World Class Athlete program. This program provides active duty, Guard and Reserve athletes the opportunity to train full time in their sport for up to two years. Roy is a common sight at the remote U.S. Olympic skeet range at Fort Carson, Colorado. There you will find ...

Subcontracting (Braden and Van Fossen Works). The speedy equipping of the armies of democracy depends upon using effectively and immediately the skill of thousands of men in shops such as the Braden and Van Fossen Works, in Staunton, Virginia. These are special jigs and other tools made up in the shop since Pearl Harbor, all of them to speed production on small war orders. The volume of such orders is much too small, and the shop is even now idle much of the time, but it is just such ingenuity as these men are showing which will mean adequate war production

The metal is alnico and the octagonal shape consists of surfaces which are arcs drawn from the center of the piece. Schick Inc., Stamford, Connecticut
