JOSN Oscar Sosa Norfolk, Va....GUNNER's Mate 3rd Class Kendall Truitt and CMDR. Robert Kissinger, executive officer of the battleship USS Iowa (BB-61), take part in a press conference several days after 47 crew members were killed in an explosion aboard the ship. The explosion occurred in the No. 2 16-inch gun turret as the Iowa was conducting routine gunnery exercises approximately 300 miles northeast of Puerto Rico on April 19th.
