Summary
Scope and content: This file unit consists of correspondence related to Wood Island Light received by Benjamin Lincoln, Henry Dearborn, and Henry A. S. Dearborn in their capacity as Superintendents of Massachusetts Lighthouses. Included are several plans for the lighthouse, letters related to proposals and authorizations to build the light, and correspondence regarding the appointment of lighthouse keepers. Included are letters from Treasury Secretary Albert Gallatin, Customs Collector for Saco, Maine Daniel Granger, and Lighthouse Keepers Benjamin Cole and Philip Goldthwait.
