Jacob Savery I - Walls, Towers, and Gates of Amsterdam

Jacob Savery was a Flemish painter born in 1566 in Kortrijk, Belgium. The son of a painter, he was trained by his father before studying with the prominent Flemish painter Gillis Coignet in Antwerp. Savery is known for his landscape paintings, often depicting mountainous terrain and dramatic skies. He was also skilled at painting animals and figures, and his works often depict hunting scenes or biblical stories. Savery's paintings were highly sought after during his lifetime and he received commissions from prominent patrons such as the Archduke Albert of Austria. His work can be seen in museums and private collections around the world. Sadly, Savery died prematurely in 1603 at the age of 37, leaving behind a legacy of stunning landscape paintings that continue to inspire and captivate viewers today.
