Summary
At sea aboard USS Kitty Hawk Seaman Keyon Kidd from Detroit, MI, uses binoculars to scan the ocean while standing aft lookout watch during a General Quarters (GQ) drill. Seaman Kidd is responsible for reporting all surface and air contacts as well as providing their distance and bearing from the ship. Kitty Hawk is providing a forward presence in the Asia/Pacific region, conducting training and exercises with regional allies. In the United States Navy, these consist of ships commissioned with hull classification symbols CV (aircraft carrier), CVA (attack aircraft carrier), CVB (large aircraft carrier), CVL (light aircraft carrier), CVN (aircraft carrier (nuclear propulsion) and CVAN (attack aircraft carrier (nuclear propulsion). The first aircraft carrier commissioned into the United States Navy was USS Langley (CV-1) on 20 March 1922.
