The U.S. ships are serving under Destroyer Squadron Four-Zero (DESRON 40) and are deployed as part Southern Seas 2009. Southern Seas is part of the U.S. Southern Command-led Partnership of the Americas mission focusing on strengthening relationship in the Southern Command area of Focus.
