The Two Visitors (poem)
Summary
cartoon, in which Dame Misfortune knocks repeatedly.
Poem above and below cartoon is as follows:
Dame Fortune knocks at each man's door
So bards and sages say --
Knocks once and stays to knock no more.
But hastens on her way.
Misfortune doesn't stop to knock
Until she tries the door.
But, if she cannot force the lock,
She knocks and knocks some more.
And if perchance the door is still
Unopened to her, she
Just seats herself upon the sill
And waits there patiently.
