Summary
Watercolour of Safdar Jang's tomb from 'Views by Seeta Ram from Delhi to Tughlikabad Vol. VII' produced for Lord Moira, afterwards the Marquess of Hastings, by Sita Ram between 1814-15. Marquess of Hastings, the Governor-General of Bengal and the Commander-in-Chief (r. 1813-23), was accompanied by artist Sita Ram (flourished c.1810-22) to illustrate his journey from Calcutta to Delhi between 1814-15.

Nawab Safdar Jang (r.1739-53) was the governor of Awadh during the period of Mughal Emperor Ahmad Shah (r. 1748-54). Safdar Jang's body was moved to Delhi where his son Nawab Shuja ud-Daula (r.1753-75) built a tomb in 1753-54 based on the model of Humayun's tomb. The basic architectural style included a square plan tomb centered in a char bagh garden complex. Inscribed below: 'Suftur Jung's Tomb.'
