The street (spring blossoms) - Public domain print
Summary
New York. Lower East Side. (Bellows) / Two preliminary drawings show the development of the ideas for this print. The original concept appears to have been modified in the translation from drawings to stone. The drawings conveyed a grimy, messy feeling of a slum that would be idealized in the lithograph. In the drawings, the trouble-making street urchin is restrained by a burly policeman; in the lithograph he is restrained by a scolding woman. (Mason)
