But what I start I finish.Either this family, here and now, severally and indi-vidually, renounces its allegiance to any doctrine, creed orfolly that is now or hereafter may be associated with thecolor of red and here and now pledges itself to honor andrespect the decent Americanism that has made us a nationor I shall consider it my duty as a man and a citizen of thisglorious republic to lick hell out of everybody present. And then the Jenkins family rose and fell on his neck andwept and explained away the things that had affrightedhim, and there was great joy in that household. The following morning as Jenkins approached the fac-tory a hairy little man whose name ended in vitch tookhim by the arm and said: Ah, comrade, the day of our deliverance is near. Lastnight I began work on a bomb. And Jenkins, newborn American, swung a good Amer-ican hip and kicked the embryo murderer seventeen feetto a gutter.
