The Royal Navy during the Second World War
The damaged submarine HMSM ROVER being towed by the CITY OF PRETORIA on the return trip from Batavia to Trincomalee for repair. The photograph was taken from the troopship DEVONSHIRE which was returning after what was part of probably the last convoy to reach Singapore with troops and stores. Apart from one air raid by Japanese planes while passing through the Bangka strait, the voyage was uneventful.
