The Lifesavers by Arden von Dewitz
Summary
Search and Rescue is one of the Coast Guard's oldest missions. Minimizing the loss of life, injury, property damage or loss by rendering aid to persons in distress and property in the maritime environment has always been a Coast Guard priority. The ship in this painting is a 95-foot patrol boat. Designed for anti-submarine warfare, the "95s" distinguished themselves offshore and in shallow waters. These boats were replaced by the 110-foot Island-Class patrol boats beginning in the mid 1980s.
