Summary
This photograph shows a group of prisoners and officials outside the House of Correction at Beverley, East Yorkshire. The Governor at the time was Alfred Shepherd, who may be the individual pictured in the centre of this image. By 1878 the House of Correction was handed over to the Home Office Prison Department and ceased to function.
This photograph is thought be the only one in existence showing Beverley's House of Correction.
