The Empty Quiver (Le Carquois épuisé)
Summary
The facetious title of this print refers to Cupid’s spent love arrows, but also to the male character’s satisfied lust, as can be seen by his weary, if ecstatic expression. His partner, freshening up her rouge, gazes challengingly at him, perhaps hoping for more… Such boudoir scenes, with erotic innuendo, were extremely popular with private collectors in 18th-century France.
