Summary
Satire on the birth of James Francis Edward Stuart; room in a hospital, with an arch inscribed 'Les Hypochondres' between bust figures of 'La Folie' and 'La Rage', and below medallions; pictures of the births of Bacchus and Minerva along the wall; in the centre, a doctor holding a bottle, and before him James II, drawing a sword, but restrained by a figure behind him; on the left, Louis XIV, wearing a hat depicting the world in flames, with two Algerines; at bottom left, a cardinal sitting on a bedpan, with sword drawn; on the right, Mary of Modena, lying as if having given birth, with Father Petre beside her, and Jesuits and priests behind, some with fingers to their lips; at bottom right, the Prince of Wales, holding a windmill, between two female figures (a wetnurse and the wife of the miller, alleged mother of the prince ?), one holding a purse, both with fingers to their lips.
