On 16 September 1918, Lt Junor of the Royal Flying Corps was tasked with providing air cover while Arab forces under the command of T E Lawrence attempted to destroy the Yarmuk section of the Hejaz Railway. Junor successfully diverted the attention of Turkish aircraft. When he returned "still alive, though attended on three sides by enemy machines, spitting bullets", Junor made a crash landing and escaped from the aircraft just before a Turkish aircraft dropped a bomb on it.
