Summary

Black and white photo of Pere Noel (Santa Claus) in sleigh harnessed to reindeer taxidermy specimen in storefront window. Man in Pere Noel costume is thin, wears long wig that hangs over one eye, and long beard; fur timed hat on head. Shown with head turned facing camera, waving with proper left hand. Sleigh is filled with wrapped and unwrapped presents including a doll, pull horse, and German teddy bear. Boxed games, a wagon (partially visible), car, doll, wicker doll carriage, snowshoes, stuffed terrier and more wrapped presents on ledge of display in front of sleigh. Bells hang off harness and tack attached to reindeer. Painted panel behind sleigh with line drawing of Santa and reindeer aloft over moonlit and snow covered village center; door at right with sign "TOY/ LAND/ FOURTH FLOOR." Two perforated holes on left edge of image. Included in folder with the photo is newspaper clipping from the Standard-Times, New Bedford, Massachusetts, dated 17 December 1936, reproducing the photo in ad for Charles H. Cox Store on Union Street.
