Summary
The "President Jackson" carried passengers and freight between Seattle and Asian ports in the 1920s and 1930s. One of its most important cargoes was Japanese raw silk, headed for mills in the eastern United States. The "President Jackson" served as a naval transport during World War II.
In this photo, people on the dock at Seattle's Smith Cove Terminal wave to passengers on the deck of the "President Jackson." In addition to freight, the ship carried 260 first class passengers and 300 third class passengers. It had a crew of 203.
