Portrait of Ernest Henry at the age of 31. Taken in England on a trip back there subsequent to his discovery of large copper deposits at Cloncurry.
Ernest Henry emigrated to Australia in 1857. After working the Riverina and the Darling Downs he took up Baroondah Station near Roma, and later Mt. McConnell Station. He explored the areas around Cloncurry and the Flinders Ranges and was the discoverer, and principle prospector, of the Cloncurry mineral district of north west Queensland (Information taken from: Queensland Historical Society Journal, v. 2, no. 2, 1923).
