City of Benares passing under the Clifton suspension bridge over the Avon river, Bristol
The City of Benares is preparing to enter the locks that give access to the harbour of the port of Bristol in south west England. On 1st October 1911 this ship was beached at Westkapelle, at the south western point of the Netherlands, with the loss of many lives. During dike reconstruction in 2006, pieces of the ship were uncovered and will be placed on display in the garden of the local museum. (Description supplied with photograph).
