Summary
Some of the James Frothingham Hunnewell collection of books. Presented to Harvard in 1945 by James W. Hunnewell, son of the collector. The collection of some hundred-odd volumes bearing the arms, bookplates, or signatures of more than 60 kings, queens, popes, cardinals, archbishops, poets, historians, scientists, and other distinguished persons. The group includes books bound for nine of the kings and queens of England from Elizabeth to George III; for sixteen of the rulers of France from Francois II to Louis Philipp; and for six popes from Clement X to Gregory XVI.
