Ships wrecked on a rocky coast RMG PV5261
Summary
Ships wrecked on a rocky coast
This is a small but highly dramatic drawing, dominated by heavy skies and the menacing craggy rocks in the foreground. Two ships are foundering, their bow and fore mast clearly visible above the water. Closer to the viewer, the masts of a third ship disappear beneath the water as three survivors cling to a rock in the right foreground.
The drawing is inscribed in the lower left: ‘W.V.V J’.
