South China Sea (Jun. 24, 2004) Ships of the combined Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) task group steam together to close out the underway portion of the Brunei phase of CARAT. Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) coastal patrol craft KDB Perwira, front row left; and KDB Pemburu, front row right; along with missile gunboat KDB Seteria, second row left; amphibious dock landing ship USS Fort McHenry (LSD 43), center; missile gunboat KDB Waspada (P02), second row right; and guided missile destroyer USS McCampbell (DDG 85), back row left; and guided missile destroyer USS Russell (DDG 59); participated in a variety of operational evolutions, including communications drills and gunnery exercises. CARAT is a regularly scheduled series of bilateral military training exercises with several Southeast Asia nations designed to enhance the interoperability of the respective sea services.
