description

Summary

Service members, assigned to Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit 2, and the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command, conduct a re-patriation ceremony at-sea for the remains of unaccounted-for service members that were recovered during a diving operation off the coast of Longue Pointe De Mignan, Quebec. A 50-person recovery team from JPAC, MDSU 2, and civilian mariners from the USNS Grapple (T-ARS 53), conducted underwater excavations searching for five Americans that were lost when their PBY-5A aircraft crashed in November 1942. JPAC conducts global search, recovery and laboratory operations to identify unaccounted-for Americans from past conflicts in order to support the Department of Defense's personnel accounting efforts.
