Sar fd 1 - Steam locomotive, Public domain image
Summary
South African Railways FD class Modified Fairlie
Although the Modified Fairlie looks like a Garratt on the first view, it is different. It has a large bridge frame, which carries coal and water supplies, cab and boiler, with two articulated driving bogies below. So it is more a development of the Kitson-Meyer than of the Garratt or the Fairlie. (http://www.skyrocket.de/locomotive/modfairlie.htm)
