description

Summary

Dutch landscape. Golden Age of Holland. A wide river with various river craft, which stretches across the width of the canvas and flows to meet the horizon. In the far right distance, a village can be seen through a gentle mist, while on the wooded bank to the left, a cart filled with singing and shouting peasants stands before a row of cottages. As they wave to the boatload of passengers approaching the shore, a ferryboat loaded with cattle pushes off. Further upstream, a boat in full sail carries its passengers toward the distant hamlet with its church steeple.

Set of images depicting various harbors, ports, and piers together with ships, fishing and sailing boats, and all types of haven-like places and views. All large image sets on Picryl.com are made in two steps: First, we picked a set to train AI vision to recognize the feature, and after that, we ran all 25M+ images in our database through an image recognition machine. As usual, all media in the collection belong to the public domain. There is no limitation on the dataset usage - educational, scientific, or commercial.

Salomon van Ruysdael was a Dutch painter who lived between 1600 and 1670. He was born in Naarden, the Netherlands, and was the nephew of the famous landscape painter Jacob van Ruisdael. Salomon is known for his realistic and atmospheric landscapes, often depicting scenes from the Dutch countryside. His paintings are characterised by their attention to detail, particularly in the rendering of light and shadow. Salomon's work influenced many other Dutch landscape painters, including his nephew Jacob and the artist Aelbert Cuyp. Some of his most famous works include 'River Landscape with Ferry' and 'View of Deventer Seen from the North-West'.
