PACIFIC OCEAN (Jan. 22, 2009) Sailors load an F/A-18F Super Hornet from the "Black Knights" of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 154 and an F/A-18E Super Hornet from the "Argonauts" of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 147 onto an aircraft elevator for transport from the hangar bay to the flight deck aboard the aircraft carrier USS John C. In the United States Navy, these consist of ships commissioned with hull classification symbols CV (aircraft carrier), CVA (attack aircraft carrier), CVB (large aircraft carrier), CVL (light aircraft carrier), CVN (aircraft carrier (nuclear propulsion) and CVAN (attack aircraft carrier (nuclear propulsion). The first aircraft carrier commissioned into the United States Navy was USS Langley (CV-1) on 20 March 1922.
