Description: Views of the tracking and data relay satellite (TDRS) and its inertial upper stage (IUS) in the payload bay of the space shuttle Challenger prior to deployment. The TDRS begins to tilt upward during its deployment, while attached to the IUS. The crescent-shaped object beneath the TDRS/IUS tandem is the airborne support equipment (ASE).
