Summary
Pulling Jack, sketched for Solomon Willard's book of 1843 on the monument. This machine was contrived and first used at the Bunker Hill quarry in Quincy. The power is about ten tons or with the addition of a sheave twenty tons. The blocks of stone were landed at Devens Wharf in Chas'n, whence a contractor transported three thousand tons of stone at 43 cents per ton to the site of the monument.
