Print, satirical print, frontispiece (BM 1868,0808.3717)

Fragment of the frontispiece to 'Ingratitude; to Mr Pope, occasioned by Manuscript about, under the title of Mr Tates Tour from the Land of Politeness to that of Dulnes and Scandal'. A nobleman wearing the sash of an order, probably the Duke of Chandos, holds the small figure of Alexander Pope under his arm while an unseen man urinates on his backside; another nobleman stands to the left, laughing. Pope respons to the insult with "Damn me if I don't put you all in the Dunciad!"
