As part of keel laying tradition, the honored persons initials are permanently inscribed on a plaque and affixed on the ships keel. The keel laying for George W.H. Bush (CVN 77) was conducted in honor of the nation's 41st president. The 21st century warship will feature numerous engineering and technology improvements, and is slated to be the 10th and final Nimitz-class nuclear powered carrier.
