Tracheal Defects Occasionally the plastic surgeon is called upon to repair a tracheal Ifistula, or even to reconstruct a portion of the trachea which may havebeen destroyed by trauma, operation, ulceration, or a burn. In a recent paper on the experimental transplantation of the tracheaBurket found that the normal trachea was sterile from the larynx to thehilus of the lung.
