Pieter van Lint was a Flemish Baroque painter who was born in Antwerp in 1609. He was a pupil of the famous painter Peter Paul Rubens and later became a master in the Antwerp Guild of St Luke. Van Lint specialised in landscape painting, especially Italian landscapes with ruins, classical buildings and figures. He also painted religious and mythological scenes, often incorporating landscape into these works. His style was characterised by his use of warm, golden tones and his attention to detail. Van Lint was highly regarded during his lifetime and received commissions from prominent patrons, including the Archduke Leopold Wilhelm of Austria. He was also a teacher, and among his students was the landscape painter Jan Baptist Weenix. Van Lint died in Antwerp in 1690, leaving behind a legacy of beautiful landscape paintings that are still admired today.
