KILKENNY. 547 Mytilites, turbinites, pectenites, tellinites, tubuporites, nautilites, and am-monites may be distinguished, and, perhaps, most of the testaceous marksusually found in such stones. About three miles north of the city, in theimmediate vicinity of other quarries, and not far from the edge of the calcareousdistrict, a little south of Methel Church, are the singular caves of Dunmore.The first cavern is irregularly shaped, of a large circumference ; the roof fiftyfeet high. Towards the left a narrow slippery passage leads to the interior,where a vast variety of stalactite forms, assisted by the inequality of the rocks,interest the spectator. The cave narrows, and again widens into a large apart-ment ; beyond are winding passages and other cavities, one of which, it is said,leads to the other side of the hill.
