Push Ball on the Parade Grounds by the Naval Apprentices. good. A special dinner is served onholidays. The boys lead a thoroughly healthylife. They are out of bed at 6 a.m., andhave till 6.30 to wash and dress; at 7a man-at-arms inspects them, with theirshirts off, to see that they are clean; at7.30 breakfast is served, after which the boys prepare for quarters at 9.15,when they must have their shoes blackedand clean clothes on ready for inspectionby the officer of the day. Inspection isfollowed by the first drill period and ashort recess, after which comes thesecond drill period of the morning. Atnoon dinner is served. At 1.15 p.m. the

Those who have been reportedfor dirty clothes must scrub them, theirbags being examined to see that nothingis left dirty. The whole number of apprentices isdivided into sections, the new boys beingplaced in sections by themselves. Eachsection has two boy petty officers, whowear chevrons on their sleeves, exerciseauthority and receive certain privileges.The daily drills are so arranged that thesections alternate on the days of theweek, each section getting the same totaltime at one drill. Almost immediatelyafter enlistment the boys are put on dutyas messengers and orderlies.
