Pfc. Rebecca L. Ortego reads "Fancy Nancy," a children's book, to two young ladies in the United States, while participating in the United Through Reading program at Camp Barber, Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Dec. 20. The United Through Reading program provides deployed service members the opportunity to read a book of their choosing from the chaplains' extensive library and be videotaped as they read it. Afterward, the chaplains present the service members with a mini-DVD recording and a padded envelope to send the message home.Ortego is a combat engineer with Combat Logistics Battalion 3, the logistics combat element of Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force ? Afghanistan, whose mission is to conduct counterinsurgency operations, as well as train and mentor the Afghan national police.
