Joseph Pennell - Pennsylvania Railroad Station, Philadelphia
Summary
"Philadelphians go abroad to see things not so picturesque as this, but New Yorkers have been educated, by Prof. Van Dyke and myself, to say that New York is fine, and they do say it now, but most of them do not see it. This is only one aspect of Philadelphia, there are others, our perfect Colonial Architecture, but Philadelphians know nothing of that and are not worthy to have it. Philadelphia is a national monument and should be taken over by the Government before it is gone." J[oseph] P[ennell].
