North American Indians attacking the home of white settlers, one kneeling in the left foreground, moved to compassion by an infant in a cradle, taking its hand while another Indian leans over the cradle, brandishing a tomohawk; a soldier with a cocked hat and figures carrying bayonets in the doorway; after Matteson; after artists' names removed.
