Every native of the Colony will feel proud thatone who has been so true and worked so hard for the best in-terests of this Newfoundland of ours, has received such adistinguished mark of approbation from the Crown.»—Herald. «We feel sure that the people of the country, without dis-tinction of class or party, will join us in heartily congratulatingSir Robert Bond upon the well-merited honor which has beenconferred on him. The recognition is one which his personalservices, as well as the status of the colony among the domin-ions of the King, justify. It is a proof that the loyal welcomegiven their Royal Highnesses in the oldest colony is fullyappreciated, and that the people of Newfoundland are honoredin the representative to whom their political destinies areentrusted. The distinction is all the more noteworthy becauseSir Robert Bond is the only one of the premiers of the severalcolonies visited who has been so honored. This may be taken

NEWFOUNDLAND. 23 as a specially significant circumstance, proving conclusivelythat exceptional reasons have justified the departure, in ourcase, from the precedent which this fact indicates. We wishthe new knight many long years to wear his new honors, butalso that they may be supplemented by others in the nearfuture.—Herald. After the dinner, Sir Robert Bond had the honor of a specialaudience with their Royal Highnesses, and was thanked for themagnificent reception the people of the colony had given them.He was also presented by the Duchess with a photograph ofherself and husband, with their autographs.))—Evening Herald. At 11:30 their Royal Highnesses returned to the «Ophir»amid the greatest enthusiasm, and at 7 oclock next morning,after a salute had been fired, the Royal party sailed for England,thus completing a tour unsurpassed for the loyalty and enthu-siasm that it evoked through the Colonies.
