has lost one of its brightest ornaments.Bishop Ryan, it is but the simple truth to state, was one of themost deservedly beloved prelates in America, not alone by hisown spiritual children, but by American people of all classes andcreeds. A Loss TO THE Church in America. From the Church News, IVashington, D. C. The death of the Right Reverend Bishop of Buffalo is a loss notonly to the diocese over which he so successfully ruled, but to theChurch in America. Bishop Ryan did a great work, and wasloved and respected far and wide. Surely the man whose memory could inspire such eloquenttributes as these in minds of various moulds and environments, must have been one who deeply impressed his day and generationwith the beauty and blessedness of his life. The fragrance of hisvirtues has sweetened the airs that blow afar. And though thesun of that life has descended the evening sky and faded fromview, its mellow rays, reflected in the hovering clouds, illumewith glory the place where he sleeps.

Himaaitj In Him Was Glerifiedo 2f f^ERE bring fair lilies, jeweled cups so sweet, j<§)T Resplendent with the dawnings crystal rain. O hallowed mystery of life and pain ! . No more the thorn-branch for his weary feet. Bring wealth of roses; all the fragrance given ; In languorous incense from their hearts of fire, j Shall thrill with memory of his pure desire, ! And mingle with this atmosphere of heaven. 1 Each phase of nature, beautiful and fine, \ The soul of charity, the noble mind, j And gentleness infinite here are shrined— .. With sweet humility of One divine. j O turbulent spirits, sorrowing, fever-tost— J Christ and His angels know what ye have lost! 1 As some frail stem bursts into perfect flower, Humanity in him was glorified; ; Love inexhaustible, and wisdom wide— ) Patience, most marvelous. With seraph power His tender voice fell over care and din. ■ Above
