Summary

Golden's town company, known as the Golden City Association, was formed when the town was founded on June 16, 1859. At that time, the town of Golden City was part of Kansas Territory. The Territory of Colorado was created to govern the western region of the former Kansas Territory on February 28, 1861. Cartographer, R.W. Clark [sic] is listed as a member of the Golden City Association in 1859. Location of Clarke & Co Saw Mill shown on bottom of map, below plat, west of Clear Creek. Clarke may have also been Robert Clarke who worked as a foreman at Merchant's Publishing Company, Denver, Colo. (1862). Historic map shows an overview of the lots, streets, alleys and geographical features of Golden City, Kansas Territory in Spring 1859.; 300 feet to an Inch
