Francisco de Zurbaran (1598—1664) was the genius of the "golden age" of Spanish painting, has a reputation as a mystical and even somewhat "sinister" artist. He is often called the "Spanish Caravaggio" - however, not because of the stormy life, consisting of adventures and crimes, but because for quite a long time Zurbaran used Caravaggio's sharp contrasts of light and shadow.
