description

Summary

Statutes of the Confraternity of Santa Maria Rotunda, in Milan. Comprising a document dated June 2, 1520 in the name of Ruffinus Belingarius, vicar general of the archdiocese of Milan, addressed to Ambrosio de Seregnio, rector of the church of San Giovanni Itolano. Includes the texts of two bulls of Pope Leo X, both dated August 13, 1518, confirming the statutes of the confraternity. Also includes a decree of the Duke of Milan, issued in January 1486, regulating the status of charitable institutions, and a pronouncement, dated March 2, 1518, in the name of King Francis I of France. Text is cast off for printing: beginning on fol. 1v, casting-off marks are formed by a combination of arabic numerals in the margins (some in ink, some scribed in blind) and corresponding lines/brackets within the text to indicate page breaks. "Pa. B," and "P. C" used to indicate the beginnings of gatherings B and C. 45 to 46 lines of text between most marks. Printed text -- at many points corresponding to the casting-off marks in the manuscript, but also with divergences in spelling and abbreviation -- here bound in second and cataloged separately as call number MS q Med. 263 no. 2.
