Letter from William P. Weeks, Canaan, [New Hampshire], to Amos Augustus Phelps, 1834 Aug[ust] 5th
Summary
William P. Weeks writes to Amos A. Phelps regarding reports concerning Phelps which have reached Canaan. He asks Phelps why he did not see him when he was in Concord. He would have called upon him and welcomed him in his "pretty little house." He writes about an academy opening up in Canaan to admit "black children on an equality with the whites." Abolitionists are to be made trustees of this academy [Noyes Academy]. He informs Phelps of a meeting for the Trustees which will be held on "the first Wednesday of September Next" and he desires Phelps to be there to "aid in giving a proper Tone to Publick sentiment."
