Summary
As the foremost miniature painter in France during the late 18th century, Isabey served a succession of rulers including Marie Antoinette, Napoleon, and the restored Bourbon monarchs Louis XVIII and Charles X.
Louis XVIII (1755-1824), a brother of Louis XVI, was placed on the French throne in 1814, fled when Napoleon escaped from Elba, and was restored to it after the emperor's final defeat at Waterloo in 1824. The king wears the ribbon and badge of the Order of Saint Esprit and the jewel of the Royal Order of the Legion of Honor.
