Henry Cammas quickly became famous for his portraits, which were highly sought after by the wealthy and influential members of French society. In 1851 Cammas opened his own studio in Paris, where he continued to produce high quality portraits. He was particularly adept at capturing the essence of his subjects and his photographs were praised for their naturalism and realism. Cammas also experimented with new photographic techniques such as collodion, which allowed faster exposure times and sharper images. He was one of the first photographers in France to use this technique and it helped to establish him as a leading figure in the field. Despite his success, Cammas remained committed to his art and continued to experiment with new techniques throughout his career. He was a member of several photographic societies and was widely respected by his peers. Henry Cammas died in 1888, but his legacy lives on through his photographs, which remain some of the most beautiful and influential images of the 19th century.
