Hull Creek railroad trestle, ca 1907 (MOHAI 6497)
Summary
The railroads faced significant geographical obstacles in building routes across Washington's Cascade Mountains. Construction workers had to deal with steep and rocky terrain with deep ravines and fast-moving rivers. The trestles and tunnels they built to carry the railroad tracks through the mountains were considered engineering marvels.
This photographic postcard, probably made around 1907, shows a Chicago, Milwaukee and Puget Sound Railway (CM&PS) train on the trestle at Hull Creek in the Cascade Mountains. Outside Washington State, the CM&PS was called the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul.
Original title: Hull Creek - CM&PS RWY Chicago, Milwaukee and Puget Sound Railway.
